Hi Everyone! I hope that your summer is starting off nicely with plenty of exercise, healthy eating and peaceful relaxation. So far, mine has surpassed my greatest expectations with my first ever serious hike in St. George, Utah, appropriately named “Angels Landing.” This climb took nearly 2.5 hours in which I, and 3 other brave souls, climbed nearly 5,600 ft. and observed some of the most amazing views known to man. Other than crossing the finish line of a major race, I can’t think of anything that remotely matches the feeling of climbing for so long and finally reaching the top. One thing is for sure, mountain climbing is not for wimps. The majority of the climb is completely vertical (I mean totally straight up), so good hiking shoes and a backpack of provisions is essential, and if you are a runner like me, you will realize almost immediately the benefit of having strong quads and calf muscles (thank goodness for all those wall squats
Check out the photos of me at the top in the photo gallery.
As for my racing, I’ve been so blessed to compete in 5 races so far this year, and place in 3 of them (my finish times in the other two weren’t bad either, thank you very much
While they all hold a special place in my heart, I must say that my favorite race so far this year has been the Corinth, Mississippi Coca-Cola Classic 10K, and no, I’m not just saying that because I placed 1st in my age group. No, for me Corinth represents much more than that. It is a lovely town steeped with rich history and southern charm, with some of the friendliest people on the planet. Moreover, several people that I met at last year’s race returned this year, so it was like a reunion of sorts and several of them are people I keep in contact with throughout the year. No doubt about it, Corinth will remain on my race schedule every year from now on.
Check out my remaining races posted on my race schedule. Are you planning to participate in any of those I have listed? If so, drop me a line and let me know. I’d love to say “hi” while out on the road!
