These days it is hard to contain my excitement about all that God is doing in my life, but I’m doing my best not to give too much away until the perfect time. It is so hard to remain silent when you know how close you are to finally realizing lifelong dreams and goals, but sometimes He requires us to “be still and know that I am God.” Even in the midst of the storm, He is there to make sure that the waves don’t actually overtake us, although they certainly do wreak havoc on the boat!
As most of you know, I have had to walk down a path that I’ve absolutely loathed for the past several years in order to realize what God has in store for me. Oh, it has just been horrible, mostly because I simply did not want to do it, but thankfully, I am close to the finish line and should be able to vocalize everything shortly so please stay tuned.
Until then, SO many wonderful things are taking shape that I can share. First and foremost, I am delighted that I’ll be in my beloved New York City four times this year, joining the NY Road Runners for several races, including the Mini 10K in Central Park this June and hopefully, the NYC Marathon in November (lottery selection takes place on April 23; there is still time to register if you haven’t already.) In addition, I will be at the U.S. Open again this year (can’t wait to see everyone) and will spend Thanksgiving in Times Square with the millions of others ingratiating ourselves in the joy of the parade, shopping and service to the Lord. Oh boy, this is all too exciting to even write about!
I started the race season off this year with an amazing 15K in Tampa at the Gasparilla Distance Classic where I was blessed to meet Joan Benoit Samuelson. I can’t help but smile when I think of me discussing running with an Olympic Gold Medalist! Who would have imagined it? Additional races will take me to New England where it is always a pleasure to run, and out west, mostly to spend time with the friends and family who mean so much to me.
With the weather being so mild for much of this winter just about everywhere, I’m sure you are like me and getting in more exercise than you anticipated. I’ve added the “Insanity” series to my routines this year, in hopes of increasing my endurance and strength. If you’ve ever seen the infomercials, then you have an idea of how grueling the routines can be, and I’m a witness to that truth. However, the benefits more than outweigh the struggle of completing a session and I plan to keep this program as a part of my regimen from here on out; but for me, nothing provides the joy and blessing that I get from running, whether the distance is 26.1 miles or 3 miles; there just is no substitute for it and after each run, I lift my hands to the Lord in thanksgiving for this wonderful, lifesaving gift – the gift of running.
Lastly, THANK YOU to you all for the numerous emails, messages, etc. I read them all and I can’t thank you enough for your amazing words of encouragement and support. The most common question I get is when will the book be released. My prayers are that it will be before the end of this year or early 2013. The details are still being ironed out but again, I’ll be able to be more definitive in a very short while.
In the meantime, please keep the messages coming and I’ll do my best to respond as quickly as possible. Keep up your training and try to maintain a good, focused exercise program no less than 4 days a week. Don’t ever get discouraged and remember that God will use your enemies to advance and bless you, so don’t get angry (don’t be a doormat either); simply smile knowing that you have the victory.
Wow, the only way to end this post is simply by saying “God is good – ALL the time!” Will be back soon with some great news!
