Your comments have been coming in fast and furious and I promise to address them all in upcoming posts very soon; however, today I must share my brief comments with you concerning the London Olympics. While there are still a few days of competition left, I can’t wait any longer to express the joy and blessing I’ve received in viewing the games these past 10 days. As an athlete, just about any sport can catch my attention because I love the art of fitness and skill. Watching the greatness of Michael Phelps in the pool and observing his prowess and power with each masterful stroke makes it easy to see why he is the most decorated Olympian in history. Who can’t get excited about seeing history unfold right before your very eyes (via the television that is.) Or how about watching Usain Bolt show us so gracefully why he is indeed the fastest man in the world. Oh my, the list just goes on and on, and with each and every event, I have been uplifted and inspired; however, there are 3 athletes, who for me, stand out just a bit above the rest.
Gabby Douglas – At just 16, this champion shows what it means to be graceful, poised and elegant, all while engaging in one of the most physically challenging sports of the games. I, like so many of you my age, have adopted Gabby as my daughter! 🙂 Bravo on your two gold medals sweet girl!
Serena Williams – For those of you who know me, this is no surprise given my immense love of the game of tennis. You want to talk about history for a second….Serena Williams has not only a Career Grand Slam, but now has four (yes, four) gold medals to add to her illustrious collection. By winning the gold medal in singles and also in doubles with her sister Venus, she is in a league all by herself. Bravo to the greatest female tennis player of all time! I am looking forward to seeing you at the U.S. Open!
Lolo Jones – Okay, so she didn’t win a medal (even though she was right there in the 4th position,) she did something even greater in my book. She graciously accepted the outcome after 6 days of training every week for the past 4 years, never ceasing to honor the Lord with the gifts and talents He has given her. Now THAT is what makes a true champion in my book. Bravo to you my beautiful sister in Christ – you are indeed a truly amazing Olympian!
Well, tonight’s games are about to begin which means I’ll be blessed once again.
A post on target heart rates coming very shortly, I promise.
