I’ve heard from so many of you and I know that you are staying on track with your fitness goals. Congratulations and keep up the good work! I know that it is still warmer than most of you would like but at least the 100-degree days are behind us for the remainder of the year – I hope.
Yesterday, I led a grueling 6-mile run in a mountainous area of one of Nashville’s public parks, and it was clear that the 40+ mile weeks we had in the summer really helped our endurance. While the climbing was tough, we managed to complete the course in record time which is always a good feeling.
Also yesterday, I had time to reflect on everything going on in our country and the world and it occurred to me how proud I am to be an African American woman. In my book “Running My Way Across the USA”, I discuss all the places I was blessed to visit that illuminate the struggle and achievement of my ancestors. Historical landmarks like the Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham, the Black History Museum in Corinth, Mississippi, and even the JFK Museum in Hyannis, Massachusetts are places that every American should visit, whether you’re black, white, red, or green. They reveal so much about the history of this nation and bring about a sense of joy with regard to how far we’ve come as a country and a people. However, there is much work still to do and more improvements to be made in every regard. I promise to strive toward that mark in my life and I pray you will too.
So continue fulfilling those fitness goals, maintain those clean diets and appreciate these beautiful days of autumn as we sail into the holiday season. I hope to see my crew in New York in a few weeks as there is nothing like the holidays in NYC!
Keep the comments and questions coming….it is always so good to hear from you.
