I don’t know about you but 2017 has started off beautifully for me! The biggest reason for my joy I cannot write about at this time (although many of you know what it is) but understand that it is a true blessing from God and I couldn’t be more grateful. He is truly faithful to those who love Him and walk according to His will, even when it is uncomfortable and painful. To Him be the glory!
Also, it is awards season and I am having a blast as a proud member of SAG-AFTRA viewing all the nominated films and performances for free. My fellow thespians have once again proven why the gift of performance and creativity remain vitally important to our society at large. Special standouts are the films “Hidden Figures” (a must-see for everyone) and “Fences” (Denzel and Viola – you take my breath away), as well as performances by Natalie Portman as “Jackie” (certainly worthy of winning her second Oscar; she nails all the charm, mystery, and grace of this former first lady) and Amy Adams in “Arrival” (I love her willingness to leave her vanity at the door for a great performance.)
And I would be remiss without mentioning Meryl Streep’s speech at the Golden Globes. In one word – BRAVO!
In addition to the wonderful world of show, I am equally excited about the tennis season this year for one primary reason: Serena Williams can surpass Steffi Graf for the most single title Grand Slam wins of ALL TIME! Right now, the two are tied with 22 slam wins each (George Stephanopoulos of “GMA” stated that one more win would cause Serena to tie Steffi. There is no excuse for getting something so monumental so wrong – unbelievable!)
Serena has 4 opportunities to get this distinguished honor but I don’t think she’ll need all 4 of them. I believe she will do it with the first Grand Slam event of the year – the Australian Open. After 2 rounds, she is looking good, so keep this beautiful sister lifted in prayer will you. She deserves the top honor in my favorite of all sports!
Folks, I could go on and on. Given how messed up our country is right now, it is imperative to stay focused on the things of God and that is why I couldn’t be filled with more joy at the moment. I am very blessed and I am very thankful.
I will have a fitness post uploaded by the weekend. The weather in the southeast has been incredible and I’ve led quite a few 10-13 mile runs throughout Nashville this year. And what a blessing to do so given that it is January. When the good Lord gives you amazing weather like this, you must take advantage of it, plain and simple. If not, you forfeit your right to complain about the rolls of fat (not curves folks – it is called “fat”) later in the year.
So keep the pedal to the medal and keep the comments rolling in. I’ve enjoyed hearing from all of you!
See you at the movies and on the running trails!
