As I watched John Lewis’ final crossing of that bridge today on television, I was reminded of the dignity and integrity that characterized his amazing life here on earth. In fact, if you can look at the gruesome film footage of the hate-filled violent attacks of racist white officers upon nonviolent protestors simply affirming their right to vote (known as Bloody Sunday) and not be motivated to keep pressing for real change in this country, then you might want to check your pulse because you probably aren’t breathing.
Edmund Pettus was a white racist whose name does not deserve to be on that bridge. Let’s keep the BLM movement alive and vibrant and rename that bridge for someone who truly deserves such an honor. The John Robert Lewis Bridge. Sounds fantastic to me!
